Chapter One - ME
In our first chapter, students start an exciting journey of self-discovery. They'll learn about their names and find out what important Jewish events happened on their birthdays, connecting their own stories to Jewish history.
Intro Video - You are part of the story
This video sets up our curriculum by showing how each student's personal story connects to Jewish history. It helps students see where they fit in our shared story, giving them a good starting point for what we'll learn next.
Duration: 5:40

My Name
Objective
Students will learn about the history and meaning of their first and last names.
Activity Overview
This activity uses the names students gave when they signed up for ANU Discovery.
-
Students will see different possible meanings for their names and need to pick the right one.
-
Students can try more than once to find the correct meaning, but they'll get fewer points with each try.
-
The "My Story" page shows a world map of where the student's last name is common, giving them information about their cultural background.

My Family Tree
Objective
In this activity, students create their own family tree. The tree will be used as the foundation for later exploration of their family’s heritage.
Activity Overview
-
Students are first asked how many parents they want to include in their family tree. They can have 1 to 4.
-
They are welcome to add step-parents or even include only one parent.
-
Non-Jewish family members are also welcome!
-
Next, they must add their parents' and grandparents' names and genders to the family tree by clicking the plus icon. The gender is only used for display icon purposes.
-
If someone in their family changed their last name, for example, they shortened it from Greenbaum to Green, they should click on the available switch and enter the original name.
-
Students can update the information by clicking on the pen icon.

-
The My Story page shows the distribution of the names around the world.

Activity Overview
-
Students enter their birth date.
-
In the next screen, they pick a topic they're interested in:
-
Something that happened in the year they were born
-
Something that happened on their birthday in a different year
-
A person who has the same birthday as them
-
-
Then they answer a question about their chosen topic.
-
